Alan has specialised in property and commercial law for more than 40 years. He was previously a partner of Hicksons for 30 years and, since his retirement as a partner in 2004, has been a consultant to the firm.

Alan's current focus is on land and property development, including contract negotiation. He also advises small business owners on corporate structures and operational planning issues.

In his wider practice, Alan continues to work across the spectrum of corporate and commercial matters. He also advises high net worth individuals on succession and estate planning issues.

Alan has extensive experience in the Supreme Court, Federal Court, Land and Environment Court and various administrative tribunals.

He acts for several investors and developers. In the area of and and property development, Alan: advises on financing arrangements and on partnership and joint venture agreements; negotiates on purchases and sales of commercial, residential, rural and industrial properties; conducts Land and Environment Court applications for significant property projects; deals and negotiates with local councils; advises on subdivision and development processes; advises on contracts for construction and development works; and acts on the sale of developed properties.

Alan also advises high net worth individuals on their business interests, ranging from establishing trusts and tax effective structures to estate and succession planning issues. His work in the succession planning area includes: advising on succession planning issues within existing family company group structures; drafting documentation relevant to succession planning objectives; drafting wills, powers of attorney and appointments of enduring guardian; advising executors and attorneys on their roles and responsibilities; acting as an executor and trustee in a number of estates; establishing investment vehicles, including testamentary trusts; obtaining grants of probate and letters of administration; and administering estates.

Alan, who holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws, commenced with the firm in 1967. He is admitted to practice in New South Wales.
