Les has 20 years public sector experience in all aspects of insurance law, including clinical negligence, clinical standards and professional indemnity.

He is widely recognised as an asute adviser in coronial matters and an expert in resolving psychological injury, property damage and personal injury claims quickly and cost effectively.

Since 2001, Les has managed over 300 claims for NSW Health agencies, of which 15% have involved catastrophic injuries with assessments exceeding $3 million. These claims have ranged from birth defects to spinal injuries with complex issues surrounding life expectancy. Les has also advised NSW Health agencies in many compensation to relatives claims following deaths in hospitals.

Les has acted for the NSW Treasury Managed Fund and its clients in numerous property damage and personal injury claims since 1990. He is highly experienced in managing litigation within TMF guidelines.

In the vast majority of claims, Les achieves resolution through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. He selects the right form of ADR to match the characteristics of each dispute. Les is highly skilled in informal conferences, conciliation, formal mediation and informal negotiations, as well as calling on third party and expert mediators.

Les is a member of the legal services panel appointed to advise blood donors in cases of alleged infection by transfusion where the Court orders release of the donor’s identity. In these matters, Les advises donors on their rights and acts on their behalf as an intermediary.

Les has a wealth of expertise in Coronial Inquests. He has advised and represented NSW Health agencies in these complex and sensitive matters.

Les also has considerable experience in Health Care Complaints Commission investigations. His advice to other government departments and agencies has spanned claims relating to brain damage, catastrophic injuries such as paraplegia, psychological injury, orthopaedic injuries, burns, loss of vision, damage to teeth and jaws, diving accidents, spinal injuries, neck fractures, and slips and falls. 

Les, who holds the SAB qualification, commenced with the firm in May 2009. He is admitted to practice in New South Wales.
