Business & Investment Visas

Business & Investment Visas allow the applicant to live in Australia while carrying out business and investment activities and opportunities.
 
There are 4 Business & Investment Visas:

  • Business Innovation & Investment (permanent) Visa (Subclass 888).
  • Business Innovation & Investment (provisional) Visa (Subclass 188).
  • Business Owner (Subclass 890).
  • Investor Visa (Subclass 891).
To be eligible for a business stream visa, you need to be invited to apply and nominated by the state. You must also have ownership of at least 1 business that had $750,000 in turnover in the past 2 years before applying for the visa. You must also own at least:
  • 51%, of the total value of the business if the business has a turnover of less than AUD400,000 per year, or
  • 30%, of the total value of the business  if the business has a turnover of AUD400,000 or more per year, or
  • 10%, of the total value of the business if the business is operated by a publicly listed company.
If your business provides professional, technical or trade services, you must have spent less than half your time providing those services, rather than general management of the business.

You, and your partner if applicable, must have a combined total net business and personal assets of at least $1.25 million.
 
Investor stream visas have similar eligibility criteria however, you must have at least 10% ownership of a business and at least $2.5 million of investments. You must also have at least $2.5 million net value of assets. You must also maintain significant investments while in Australia.
